Three-Swatch Fabric and Elastic Observation Worksheet
Quick answer: This printable sheet helps learners record and compare observations from three fabric or elastic samples, with sample conditions recorded for comparison. It is a practice worksheet—not a standardized test, quality certification, or guarantee of durability, safety, or garment fit.
Specialist review status: Proposed educational template, version 1.0. No specialist review has been documented.
Origin: English translation of the Persian observation sheet, version 1.0, dated 27 September 2026. This translation has not been independently validated.
How to use the worksheet
- Prepare three same-size, comparable samples labelled A, B, and C. Record the grain or stretch direction.
- Record the needle, thread, stitch type, stitch length, and machine settings appropriate to each material. If these conditions differ, note the differences and do not treat the results as a controlled comparison.
- Sew one short, similar seam on each sample.
- Inspect separate swatches, not a garment being worn. Gently stretch each sample by hand and describe the seam appearance, puckering, needle marks, stretch, and recovery you observe.
- Select only the sample that appears more suitable for the next supervised check, and explain why.

Print this page, then complete the table by hand. The webpage does not provide fillable fields or save your observations.
Hypothetical example
“Sample B showed less waviness after sewing, but it still needs a separate, appropriate follow-up check with instructor guidance.” This is an invented illustration of note-taking, not a result from a class, laboratory test, or particular product.
What this worksheet does not establish
- It does not establish long-term durability, colourfastness, or wash behaviour.
- It does not confirm skin-contact safety or suitability for a finished product.
- It is not a substitute for a technical standard, specialist test, or instructor judgement about a specific project.
- It does not guarantee that a material is suitable for a particular garment or body.
Who may find it useful?
Beginner sewing and fashion learners, people who want to document a test sample before the main sewing stage, and instructors who need a simple observation format.
